Job Description: Executive Producer
Salary (depending on experience) £26,000 - 30,000 full time

BACKGROUND:

At a pivotal point in Capsule's 16-year history of crafting extraordinary projects for curious audiences, we are looking for an Executive Producer to help deliver our vision.

Capsule is a cultural alchemist: an innovative curator initiating, producing multi disciplinary work, this encompasses festivals, cultural events, and artist development through partnerships with a range of organisations. Capsule crafts extraordinary cultural projects for curious audiences; we seek to reveal the otherwise indescribable connections between art forms. Our aims are to introduce new audiences to our programme of activity, provide a platform for new work sonic/visual practice, expand the opportunities available for artists to develop and champion the unclassifiable. We have a unique ability to present the highest quality experimental work in a playful and imaginative way in different contexts, allowing us to reach out to diverse audiences. We create a context and critical mass for new work.

From hand crafted wooden structures designed by the award winning Studio Myerscough which acted as a billboard for the opening of the largest library in Europe to an immersive installation with remote control cars with styli attached, which raced across a track constructed from 1000's of disused vinyl records nestled under a giant viaduct, to a stupendous procession of unexplored rhythms, unsung songs, unexplainable creatures and un-mythical beings set on a village green in Stoke on Trent.

This opportunity comes at an exciting time in the organisation's growth, having secured funding from HLF for a new phase for our groundbreaking heritage project Home of Metal and the re-imagining of Supersonic Festival in 2017. Working with the Artistic Director, the Executive Producer is a key role for someone who wants to make their mark by translating the Capsule vision into action, helping to shape our long-term goals and maintaining the financial and organisational stability of our work, ensuring the smooth running of our projects.

This post has been made possible by three years' funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

Job description: Project Manager Home of Metal
Salary £8,040 fee (£30,000 pro rata equivalent) part time fixed term contract August 2016, date TBC until end March 2017. Possibility of contract being extended depending on future funding

BACKGROUND:

Established by Capsule in 2007, Home Of Metal is a groundbreaking heritage project that examines the origins of Heavy Metal and its birthplace in Birmingham and the Black Country, UK. Delivered across fifteen major arts institutions, including a large-scale exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Home Of Metal brought together unseen artefacts, relics, memorabilia and personal stories sourced directly from the fans alongside iconic items from the bands.

Over 200,000 people attended events and activities during the summer of 2011 and the project was shortlisted for a National Lottery Heritage award, for the title of Best Heritage Project.

Inspired by Black Sabbath's Final world tour in 2016, Home of Metal will capture this unique moment from the perspective of the fans, working together to show the impact and legacy of the band, pioneers of the genre and to celebrate this unique, significant part of British music heritage.

Home Of Metal will explore how the music of four working class lads from Aston, Birmingham captured the hearts and minds of fans globally. A testament to their loyalty, the project will pay homage to the fan's devotion and document the forty-year relationship. Home Of Metal will work with fans, volunteers and the community to harness the power of social media, make portraits and capture and collate stories that mark this unique moment in history. The content collected will be used to develop an active online archive that will form part of a future exhibition to be launched in autumn 2017. The ultimate ambition is to create a permanent collection for Birmingham and for fans across the world to pay homage to the birthplace of Heavy Metal and the pioneers of the genre.

This opportunity comes at an exciting time in Capsule's growth, having secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for this new phase for our groundbreaking project Home of Metal. Working with the Artistic Director, the Project Manager is a key role for someone who wants to make their mark by translating the Home of Metal vision into action, helping to shape our long-term goals and ensuring the smooth running of the project.
