We launched our newHOME OF METAL website just recently and already have had some amazing contributions to the archive. We’ve been asking people to add their Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Judas Priest, Napalm Death & Godflesh related memorabilia to the archive to help to inform our exhibition in 2011 at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Even if you don’t have memorabilia you can help us by ratingyour favourite artefacts.
Currently the top three are:
In first place is this fantastic cartoon book of Sabbath uploaded by Doug Roemer from Arlington in the US.
In second place we have an awesome Tony Iommi incorporating the Sunn 0))) logo tattoo uploaded by Stephen O’Malley belonging to his friend from Finland
and in third place we have a great piece of history – a Black Sabbath at the Mayfair in the Bullring Birmingham poster from 1970 declaring that there was ‘ No Restrictions on Dress or Hair whatsoever’ uploaded by Neil Perry of West Brom
We’ve also had some great Godflesh related flyers, posters and live photos uploaded. Feel free to help us spread the word and dig out your related memorabilia – gig tickets, photos, posters, t’s, set lists, badges and your memories or just rate the items you like best. Have a look at HOMEOFMETAL.COM
There has always been a healthy fanbase of stoner rock in all its different sub-genres and splintered factions in Birmingham, aided in no small part to the sterling work done by promoters Capsule, who have consistently provided a stage for some of the worlds finest artists in this field. After winding down 2009 with appearances by Electric Wizard, Isis and Sunn o))) amongst others, and with a Baroness show in January, you’d have been forgiven for assuming there’d be more to follow swiftly in their wake. But nothing. Bit of IDM, some Krautrock legends. And then, out of the blue, confirmation that Capsule had nefariously been toying with us. Waiting to drop their bomb.
Eyehategod are playing Birmingham.
….
No doubt about it, this was not a show for the unconverted. EHG’s sound and ethos is extreme, aggressive and unashamed. They write anthems for the sick, for the outcasts and losers of the world; and for what the band lack in the way of financial success or just plain good luck, they take their reward in the love and respect that everyone here threw their way for every minute of the set. And probably a fair bit of drugs as well. This was a show for the fans, and if you own even a single Eyehategod CD you should have been here, it was truly amazing.
What an amazing show this was! Thanks to all who came down and helped to make it a superb night. Eyehategod had a great time and were more than a bit impressed by the insane Birmingham crowd.
Support came from Stinky Wizzleteat - who were pretty stoked all night to be supporting their favourite band

We areare once again off to spread the word about our amazing Home of Metalproject, we are delighted to be have been invited to Roadburn Festivalin Tilburg, Netherlands.
Holland’s very own Roadburn Festival has become Europe’s leading underground festival for psychedelic, avant-garde, doom or any other variation of leftfield sonic pleasures that push the boundaries of music.
Home of Metal will be hosting a Q & A with Justin Broadrick of Godflesh/Jesu/Final and of course a founding member of Napalm Death, he will be interviewed by Jonathan Selzer of Metal Hammer UK Magazine. We’ll be sure to take loads of photos and upload the interview on our return.
The combined curatorial powers of Capsule and Birmingham Jazz bring you this exciting show – featuring members of Food and Supersilent, Humcrush are a dizzying force combining jazz, electronica and free sounds.
Folks it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for…
SUPERSONIC FESTIVAL 2010
First up – NEW FESTIVAL DATES! 22 – 24 OCTOBER 2010
Birmingham, UK
SWANS HEADLINE SUPERSONIC FESTIVAL 2010
Tickets on sale now from: www.theticketsellers.co.uk www.seetickets.com To launch the 2010 edition of Birmingham’s acclaimed annual Supersonic Festival, Capsule are over the moon to announce that Michael Gira’s massively influential NYC band SWANS will headline this year’s festival, which takes place from 22 – 24 October 2010. Tickets are now on sale! Their appearance at Supersonic Festival 2010 will be their first British show since they disbanded in 1997.
The recent reactivation of the band – with the line up of: Michael Gira; guitar, voice, mendicant friar act (original Swans), Norman Westberg: guitar (original Swans), Christoph Hahn: guitar (mid-period Swans and most Angels of Light ), Phil Puleo; drums, percussion, dulcimer etc etc (final Swans tour and most of Angels of Light), Chris Pravdica: bass and gadgets (Flux Information Sciences / Services/ Gunga Din) and Thor Harris: drums, percussion, vibes, dulcimer, curios, keys, etc… (Angels of Light, now also with Shearwater) – promises to be as formidable as the early, brutal and growling noise albums they made their mark with.
This rare and exceptional performance by SWANS mark the start of a series of line up announcements for Supersonic 2010, with many more exciting acts and artists to be revealed in the coming weeks and months.
Moving from its previous July weekend date to October from 2010 onwards, Supersonic will once again take place in and around the Custard Factory in the heart of Eastside of Birmingham, utilising converted factory warehouses and art galleries and offering up-close, intimate settings to showcase some of the most exciting music out there. Capsule’s passion for genre bending sound and performances is at the heart of all their events – there are not many places where you can listen to funeral doom, prog, folk, avant jazz and grindcore in one weekend.
We’ve been desperate to have Chrome Hoofback since their amazing show at Supersonic2007 and it’s taken a while – last year’s scheduled show was cancelled due to those unforseen circumstances that do crop up now and then. But now they’re coming! Along with their platform heels, glittered freak outs and metallic heavy riffs.
Features CATHEDRAL bassist Leo Smee who has brought together a veritable orchestra of musicians decked out in futuristic monk’s robes kicking it like some unholy hybrid of SUN RA, GOBLIN, PARLIAMENT/FUNKADELIC and BLACK SABBATH, complete with choreographed dancers, actors taking vaudeville interludes, and a twelve foot tall metallic ram dominating the dance floor.
