BOREDOMS, Japan’s iconoclastic experimental music “unit”, redefine the words “fringe” and “Frontier.
They have long pushed the constraints of sanity to the edge and challenged the notions of what remains feasible within the musical form. Their experimentations with rhythm and noise produce collages of sound, color and chaos. They translate the most base human emotions into comprehensible noise; sometimes in a barrage of screams and drums and sometimes in slow languid mantras that evoke the quieter moments of life. Acknowledging no limits of taste or form, there are no boundaries, no ceiling on the possibilities of experience and expression for the Boredoms. Formed in Osaka in ‘86 with EYE Yamataka.

Spewed up from the murky depths of Birmingham at some point in mid 2006, Bee Stung Lips is a four-headed hideous beast, with blood-shot eyes and tentacles stretching far back into the Midlands music scene.
Chewing on notes from The Jesus Lizard, Hot Snakes and Oxbow, and then spitting them back out, with additional nods to literary giants such as Charles Bukowski and John Fante, they create a provocative mixture of wilfully abrasive noise and viscera-shredding rock ‘n’ roll. Howling, anguished, and convulsive vocals tussle with rapid-fire drums, riotous guitar and blistering bass lines, before collapsing into a chaotic heap, breathless and foaming at the mouth.

Kling Klang –
Kling Klang are a five piece kraut-punk band from Liverpool, consisting of four synth players and a drummer. Formed in mid 1999, as a 3 piece using only cheap synths and old drum machines. Since then they have used every show and release as a way to explore new dynamic ways of presenting their unique sound.

Mike In Mono has been the solo project of Mike Johnston (Plone, ZX Spectrum Orchestra, Modified Toy Orchestra) since 1995. All things avant-garde come to Town Hall tonight, courtesy of Capsule,
one of Birmingham’s most innovative art and music promoters. Capsule
has curated a programme of live performances from two pioneers of the
experimental music scene: Pram and Modified Toy Orchestra.
Modified Toy Orchestra circuit-bend toys beyond their original
capabilities, creating perfect pop songs from imperfect instruments,
whilst Pram Birmingham’s Pram craft fairytales from concrete reality. The second
city’s spin cycle of perpetual renovation, from the slum clearances to
its current cosmetic upgrade, is etched in Pram’s restless groove, an
endearing and gently refusenik mix encircling early Rough Trade
innovators The Raincoats, astro jazz, sci-fi soundtracks, creepy
Victoriana, tropical analogue and tumbledown funk. Joined by Shady Bard, a miniature indie orchestra of pianos, guitars,
casiotones, violin, cello, French horn and samples which burst
occasionally into catastrophic scuzz.

With a heavy-handed approach and a sound that crashes like thunder,
HIGH ON FIRE has put the power back in ‘power-trio.’ Less a band than a
supersonic exercise in conquest by volume and sheer heaviness, the band
has burned the metal rulebook and forged a new archetype.

HIGH
ON FIRE was formed by guitarist Matt Pike in late summer 1998; a scant
six months after the breakup of his previous band, the enigmatic
stoner-metal legend SLEEP. Formed out of the need to simply play guitar
again, Pike jammed with settled on a line-up of powerhouse drummer Des
Kensel and longtime guitarist friend George Rice, who made the switch
to bass to round out the trio.

HIGH ON FIRE are a supersonic
exercise in conquest by volume. Equal parts molten metal and earthquake
panic, HIGH ON FIRE’s MOTORHEAD-meets-SLAYER roar is outrageously loud
and absolutely punishing. With their latest release, “Blessed Black
Wings”, guitarist / vocalist Matt Pike (ex-SLEEP) unleashes a
devastating combination of bombastic guitar and howling war cries,
weaving fantastical tales of supernatural beasts, forgotten battles and
rivers of blood over an unstoppable bass and drum assault. HIGH ON FIRE
are a class unto themselves, manhandling rock music while locking into
grooves that transcend time.
