Pan.Thy.Monium would be immense but they may have split.

And as for reunions... The ultimate, most incredible thing you could possible put on would be the original lineup of PainKiller, with Mick Harris on drums. That would be incredible, i'd probably cry... Or failing that get Ground-Zero back together...

I cant believe no ones asked for 'Sleep' theyre playing in atp in New York not long after so i reckon if you asked real nicely they could be keen. Especially considering the miracle performances you had last year ala Corrupted, Goblin, The Accused which were all incredible!!

lots of people seem to want Grails, Boris, Acid Mothers Temple, Nadja, Wolf eyes and i couldnt agree more and how about you please try and get Comets on Fire , Jesse Sykes, Edan, Fever Ray and Bong Ra for some variety.
Battles, Harvey Milk and Nissenmondai all dominated in recent years and id love to see them again.
Good luck with that Capsule, love ya work regardless

more new uk acts (like when you had Kling Klang, Beestung etc)

balance the doom (i'm not saying less doom, but perhaps spread it more evenly)

more dark or experimental electronica, pyar rave on friday

Well seeing as Gira has officially 're-activated' SWANS (without Jarboe unsurprisingly) they are the obvious choice to headline. Go get 'em girls!

And if your magical mystical powers are in full force, get Infest and Siege to reform and play.

Hmmm, only 1 vote for Psychic Paramount so far, bizarre. They should be first on the list.
Also, as Zeni Geva seem a popular choice ask Laddio Bolocko to reform and you've got 3 bands for the price of 2 so to speak.

Also, ask Trans AM, not Fucking Champs.

Lots of great suggestions so far, so lots of these have already been mentioned...

Some Black Metal would be great - any of: Wolves In The Throne Room, Nachtmystium, Mayhem, Drudkh, Cobalt and Ulver would be fantastic. There are some excellent british BM bands who'd fit right into a Supersonic line-up too, like A Forest Of Stars and Caina.

...Oh, and this would be a must as well:

ECM - Sounds And Silence documentary on ECM

Over a period of five years, Swiss filmmakers Norbert Wiedmer and Peter Guyer followed producer Manfred Eicher and the artists of ECM around the world. In footage from Estonia, Tunisia, Germany, France, Denmark, Greece, Argentina and elsewhere, their documentary movie “Sounds and Silence”, captures aspects of the music-making process at ECM, and gives glimpses of unique players and composers at work. Amongst them: Arvo Pärt, Eleni Karaindrou, Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner, Anouar Brahem, Gianluigi Trovesi, Marilyn Mazur, Nik Bärtsch, Kim Kashkashian, Jan Garbarek and many others.

On August 8. “sounds and silence” had its premiere at Locarno’s wonderful Piazza Grande in front of on audience of 7000 spectators. Afterwards ECM met with artists, friends and distributors in a nearby bar. In his festival report for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Fritz Goettler gave a lively account of the film: „With his record label ECM Manfred Eicher has pionered modern music like few others. The film shows him at work, accompanies him through large parts of the world.. Although always outside the musical action he is its actual centre, listening with concentration, evaluating, evasive, at times even slightly demonic. He knows what he wants and he gets it. A Sisyphus task. Sometimes there is the twinkle of a boyish smile in his face, and in one situation he spontaneously dances with Arvo Pärt. We ought to imagine him as a happy person.”
  • Nat
Well I saw SOTL four times last year in the UK - I honestly couldn't say any of the shows were 'ferociously loud'. However, the word awe-inspiring does come to mind!

It would be great to maybe organize something to celebrate forty years of the ECM label -www.ecm40.de. I know that Polar Bear Records in Birmingham are big fans, as are SOTL. Maybe a day to celebrate one of the most exciting jazz / contemporary classical labels that ever existed? I'd be up for helping to arrange something!!! Something could be organised for the Theatre space maybe?

Perhaps also a screening of Jean Luc Godards 'Histoire Du Cinema' which is awesome (again, ECM related).

"Jean-Luc Godard transformed the face of cinema with his prolific, influential and revolutionary body of work which includes such classics as 'Breathless', 'Weekend' and 'Slow Motion' to name but a few. His video series 'Histoire(s) du Cinema', consisting of eight episodes made over a period of ten years, is an extraordinary look at the medium through the eyes of this unique filmmaker. Hugely ambitious in scope, the series covers a wide range of topics from the birth of cinema to Italian neo-realism to Hollywood and beyond. A dazzling montage of sight and sound, 'Histoire(s) du Cinema' features a diverse array of film extracts, the voices of - among others - Juliette Binoche and Alfred Hitchcock, and an eclectic music soundtrack ranging from Beethoven to Leonard Cohen."

Guess all of this would work best maybe on the Sunday?
  • Rammo
Triptykon (Fischer's new project) would be an extra special treat. Mayhem would be great too.
  • Keefe
Not so in the case of a live set I reckon, SotL are a ferociously loud live band. I had seen the trailer already but just rewatched it again. Can't wait to see it @ Supersonic! :)
  • Nat
Thanks Keefe...have you seen the trailer for the movie? Looks awesome, and would be perfect if it were screened at Supersonic in the Theatre space....Only problem though - the sound from the stage outside would overwhelm the sound of the Lid, totally drowning it out....Same problem should the band play live, so maybe a really late night set would be best when the outside stage has finished....

  • I would perform sexual favors for the entire capsule crew if you made Current 93 next years headliners. Although I realize how unlikely a C93 performance in Brum would be so I shant hold my breath :p Still though you managed to get Head Of David to reform. I fully expect a reunion show by The Grey Wolves to take place next year ;)

Although I do have some more realistic suggestions. For the past 3 years i've been gunning for you to book the scottish noise band Wraiths, I really really really REALLY think they ought to be on next years lineup. If not them hows about the American anti-music band Blue Sabbath Black Cheer. Both bands produce what is quite possibly the most evil soundscapes in the world. The same goes for Prurient, Bastard Noise, Pain Jerk, Can't (ladytype 'librarian' noise artist, would be fresh genre for trhe festb to explore) and Pulse Emitter.

Sylvester Anfang II would fit the psychedelica/blackenedfreakfolk requirements of your attendees perfectly, as demonstrated by their self-titled record released this year. Or how about something thats equally halucinagenic but many times more beautiful in the vein of Jackie O-Motherfucker? Speaking of beautiful and melodious music then The Twilight Sad or We Were Promised Jetpacks would make excellent additions to any festival.

On the flipside if you are looking for some decent grindcore/hardcore then might I suggest Black Arrows Of Filth & Impurity. They are a much nastier and genuinely brutal alternative to those genres overabundance of breakdowns, pointless gore cliches and high maintenance haircuts. A slightly weirder and more rock orientated band like Future Of The Left wouldn't be a bad decision either. Next years emotronic/sugarypop niche could be given to Her Space Holiday, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone or Lucky Dragons; whilst the folk/songwriter niche could go to Alela Diane or Sol Invictus.

I've just realized how horrible and inhuman most of the above bands are. How about some tech house to get the kiddy-winks dancing? Bands on labels like Audiomatique have been doing some amazing things in recent years. Adultnapper, Trentemoller, Mathias Schaffhauser, Robert Babicz, Extrawelt etc. It would be a bit different from the the SuperSonic norm but I reckon it would go down a treat. Or hows about some electroclash? Would The Presets, Cut Copy or Midnight Juggernauts be too indie for the fest? Some other genres that SuperSonic festival fans tend to overlook include hip-hop/rap, black ambient, drum n' bass (I personally think PCM on friday is getting a bit boring), darkwave, EBM and Gore Metal.

Just some brain farts to contemplate :D

    Fantasy Festival, what fun.

Echoes for The Ex, Circle, Neurosis, NWW, Current 93, Kinski, Boredoms, Six Organs of Admittance, and (thinking diversity):

    Throbbing Gristle - just because
Neokarma Jooklo Trio - Italian cosmic psych rockers
Shrinebuilder - let's see what they can do
Legendary Pink Dots - UK gigs all too rare (but here Nov 15)
Sol Invictus - ditto for these neofolkies
The Young Gods - ditto for these Swiss industrialists
    Pan Sonic - electronic wizards
Richard Pinhas & Merzbow performing 'Kelo Line' - high culture
Aethenor - Stephen O'Malley at his best, perhaps
Crippled Black Pheonix - post rock I can listen to
A Silver Mt. Zion - more post rock I can listen to
The Heads - psych rock to die for/to
Sian Alice Group - always a delight
The Skull Defekts - drums are the skull of god
Fire on Fire - former Cerebrus Shoal folk rockers
    American Watercolor Movement - huh?
Creeping Nobodies - should be somebodies
Tall Firs - hit my soft spot

...plus, for something a bit different:

Arktau Eos - Finnish ritualists, Equinox Festival highlight, and
Amodali - former Mother Destruction & Sixth Comm vocalist/performer (in B'ham Oct 24)

  • Madigan The Nubilous
Get Khanate to reform (!). Glatze and Scorn were killer, so longer sets next year would be great. Also, how about any of these? : Anaal Nathrakh, Ryoji Ikeda, Mincing Fury And Guttural Clamour Of Queer Decay, Iration Steppas, The Bug, Baby Dee.
  • William Basinski, Scott Tuma, GAS, Yellow Tears, Burzum, Emeralds, Bone Awl, Darkthrone, Dalek (again), Ducktails, Thuja, Wolf Eyes, Skaters, Mountains, The Caretaker, Cold Cave+Prurient, Loren Connors, Mount Eerie, Supersilent, Me.
  • Circle - we need some NWOFHM in the country soon!

Bardo Pond - it's been too long since they were in the UK and the recent albums on Threelobed have been awesome.

Bong - let them play all night...

Desalvo - can't believe they weren't there this year, perfect Supersonic fodder.

Divorce - another Glasgow band that would go down a storm at Supersonic. 10'' recently on Optimo label.
