As part of the Bring To Light weekend. we’ll be paying homage to one of the pioneers of electronic music, Delia Derbyshire. The Delia Darlings exist to pay sonic homage to Derbyshire via her archive held at University of Manchester. Currently, Delia Darlings are experimental electronic Caro C and contemporary classical Ailís Ní Ríain. After Delia Derbyshire Day in Manchester in Jan 2013, the darlings have an info-show that spreads the magic of the fascinating archive.

The aim of this project is to increase the profile and honour the legacy of the late great Delia Derbyshire, as well as championing female experimental composers past and present.

At Bring To Light, Delia Darlings will present:

Caro C – live performance of ‘Audient, My Dear’ and Ailís Ní Ríain – live performance of “The Consquences of Falling” for trumpet and double bass . Both performances will be creative response to interacting with the archive of Delia Derbyshire.

Both performances will be preceded by an intro sharing insights into Delia’s archive and working methods and playing extracts from the archive which have rarely been heard in public. There’ll also be a Q&A with the artists.

Plus screening of Kara Blake’s award-winning documentary “The Delian Mode”

There’s a lovely interview with Delia Derbyshire on soundcloud, where she discusses working at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and her famous work on the Doctor Who theme.

Brain Pulse Music’, is experimentation with brain waves and sound. Formerly of the Japanese band Ghost, Batoh has dedicated years of research to this project, investigating the bioelectric functions of the human brain combined with the traumatic aftermath of Japan’s Great East Earthquake. Batoh combines this work with traditional folk influences to create and powerful and pure expression of the human condition.

Masaki Batoh will be performing at Bring To Light weekend 25-27 October which will take place at the Library of Birmingham as part of the Capsule curated Discovery Season.

The high speed dance phenomenon comes to Birmingham this October. As well as catching performances by the musicians and dancer, you can join a hyper accelerated dance workshop, complete with costumes!

After a hugely successful, artistically exciting and game changing 10 years, Capsule are using this milestone as an opportunity to re imagine Supersonic Festival. The festival will return in April 2014, in a new format, at an exciting new venue, with experimental new music and art remaining at its heart.

It’s been a wonderful decade of adventurous music, beginning in 2003 with a one-day event featuring Coil and LCD Soundsystem. Last year’s anniversary event encompassed a weekend of installations, workshops, talks, films, new commissions, and live performances with Kim Gordon, the Oxbow Orchestra, Penny Rimbaud and many more.

We’re enormously grateful for the loyal support of our audience, and we hope you will join us 25-27 April for Supersonic Festival’s next chapter.
