Godflesh announcement – Fact Magazine

Formed by Justin Broadrick, a one-time member of Napalm Death who’s collaborated on various projects with Kevin ‘The Bug’ Martin and also leads Jesu, Godflesh are considered legends in the Birmingham experimental music scene that birthed Surgeon, Scorn, Regis and more. They were also a pronounced influence on the apocalyptic dubstep of Skull Disco, as well as various metal bands throughout the ’90s.

Godflesh confirmed for Supersonic Festival

Following the news that the 2010 edition of Birmingham’s acclaimed annual Supersonic Festival will be headlined by SWANS, Capsule are hugely excited to announce the second headlining act, GODFLESH. Acclaimed by many as founders of the industrial metal movement, Godflesh will be returning to their Birmingham roots to play the band’s first UK show in over 10 years. Tickets are now on sale!

Featuring band members Justin Broadrick (ex-Napalm Death and Head of David) and Benny Green (ex-Fall of Because), Godflesh will be bringing their crushing, apocalyptic sound back home to Birmingham in only their second show since they disbanded in 2002.
“We cannot even recall specifically the first Birmingham Godflesh show. Oddly, we think it was supporting Suicide in 1988, just after the release of our first Mini LP on Swordfish, the record label of Birmingham’s best record shop. So it’s only natural that the first Godflesh UK show in its original form in over 10 years, comes home to its birthplace, and for whom better than Supersonic, the organisation responsible for keeping Birmingham on the map with underground music, be it metal or otherwise. It is with great pleasure that Godflesh returns to its roots.” – Justin Broadrick, Godflesh

This rare and exceptional performance by GODFLESH forms part of a series of line up announcements for Supersonic 2010. Also confirmed are with many more exciting acts and artists to be revealed in the coming weeks and months.

The recent reactivation of the band – with the line up of: Michael Gira; guitar, voice, mendicant friar act  (original Swans), Norman Westberg: guitar  (original Swans),  Christoph Hahn: guitar  (mid-period Swans and most Angels of Light ), Phil Puleo; drums, percussion, dulcimer etc etc  (final Swans tour and most of Angels of Light), Chris Pravdica: bass and gadgets  (Flux Information Sciences / Services/ Gunga Din) and Thor Harris: drums, percussion, vibes, dulcimer, curios, keys,  etc… (Angels of Light, now also with Shearwater) – promises to be as formidable as the early, brutal and growling noise albums they made their mark with.

This rare and exceptional performance by SWANS mark the start of a series of line up announcements for Supersonic 2010, with many more exciting acts and artists to be revealed in the coming weeks and months.

Moving from its previous July weekend date to October from 2010 onwards, Supersonic will once again take place in and around the Custard Factory in the heart of Eastside of Birmingham, utilising converted factory warehouses and art galleries and offering up-close, intimate settings to showcase some of the most exciting music out there. Capsule’s passion for genre bending sound and performances is at the heart of all their events – there are not many places where you can listen to funeral doom, prog, folk, avant jazz and grindcore in one weekend.

The Ex & Brass Unbound

The Ex & Brass Unbound from QU JUNKTIONS on Vimeo.

“Once seen, a live performance by … The Ex is never forgotten. Imagine two men in short pants and army boots, guitars slung impossibly low, careering round the stage like demented dodgem cars, backed by a veritable arsenal of precision-honed polyrhythms”
– The Wire

For 9 dates in Feb 2010 The Ex will unleash a brand new, wild and combustible show in collaboration with four of the world’s most powerful and performative horn players for some unbelievable in-the-red swing time. Brass Unbound comprise Swedish force of nature Mats Gustafsson (saxophone) from The Thing, Chicago jazz heavyweight Ken Vandermark (saxophone), Italian wild card Roy Paci (trumpet) and boundary busting classical/futurist Wolter Wierbos (trombone).

The Ex & Brass Unbound play at the Hare & Hounds on Monday 1st of Feb

MONO confirmed to play in Brum

We’re delighted to announce a show with Japanese band MONO for Tuesday 16th March. After last years sell out show at the Hare & Hounds, we’ve made sure that they’ll be no disappointed punters this time round with the show taking place at The Asylum in Hockley,  Birmingham.
Tickets available from www.theticketsellers.co.uk

Mono are a Japanese instrumental rock band formed in 1999 in Tokyo, Kantō, Honshū. The band consists of Takaakira Goto (electric guitar), Yoda (electric guitar), Tamaki Kunishi (bass guitar, electric guitar, piano, glockenspiel), and Yasunori Takada (drum kit, glockenspiel, synthesizer).

The band’s style of instrumental rock music is influenced by the genres of experimental rock and shoegazing, as well as by both the classical and contemporary classical periods of classical music, and also by noise and minimalism. Mono’s sound is characterised by the lead and rhythm guitars of Goto and Yoda respectively, both of whom make use of reverb, distortion and delay effects. Mono’s live performances are renowned for their intensity, both in their playing and in their dynamics.

I’ve actually seen grown men at Roadburn Festival be moved to tears while watching them.
