The Sound Trolley photos / return of the typography workshops

Huge thanks to MortonUnderwood and everyone who got involved with The Sound Trolley residency last week. Causing a right old racket in the Pavilion at the entrance to the Library of Birmingham, sounds were triggered as the trolley was pushed around on floor patterns made from vinyl – these designs determined what sound the trolley made. Images are by Katja Ogrin.

As the trolley moved along the vinyl, different patterns triggered different sounds

This week sees the return of Studio Myerscough’s typography workshops, come along to the Pavilion to join in designing a new typeface.

Juneau Projects’ returned at the weekend to deliver another Vegetable Quest workshop where families made vegetable people from plasticine.

And this Wednesday 2nd October at 8pm is Rise of Birmingham. Free School, Victories at Sea, Victor and Youth Man are four brilliant bands from the region, check em out for only a £5. Tickets are available from www.birmingham-box.co.uk

Meet Free School

The next Capsule event sees noise popsters Deerhoof play an intimate show at the Hare & Hounds, on Monday 24th June. They’ve not played in Birmingham since 2005 and it seems you’ve not forgotten them as tickets are selling fast. Joining the bill are two great, and very different Birmingham bands, Victor and Free School.

Free School will bring the sunny Balearic sounds of summer and the icy kosmische sounds of winter for some disconcerting dance music. Here they are opening Supersonic Festival’s 10th anniversary where Stool Pigeon enjoyed their “insidiously groovy, shiny pop-tinged approach”.

And this video was made for the release of their album Tender Administration on Tirk Records

There’s lots of videos and tracks to peruse at www.wearefreeschool.com and you can buy tickets for the event at www.theticketsellers.co.uk

Free School + Victor support Deerhoof

We’ve got two great acts to add to the bill for Deerhoof on 24th June, quite contrasting, but we like to mix up our events!

Free School are an amazing Birmingham act making a real impact on the UK electronica scene, taking retro futurist disco as a starting point, they kicked off Supersonic 2012 nicely.
“Bringing the sunny Balearic sounds of summer and the icy kosmische sounds of winter to a venue near you, Free School are maximalist and minimalist all at once. But in a good way.”
