Sleaford Mods’ Sold Out Show

sleaford_webposter

We’re excited to welcome back Sleaford Mods to a sold out show at Hare & Hounds on Friday February 20th. Sleaford Mods are experiencing something of a meteoric rise, having just been announced for Primavera Festival and last year gaining accolades everywhere, including from Mark Fisher and Stewart Lee (not to mention some ‘beef’ with Noel Gallagher, perhaps a compliment in itself depending on your point of view).

Here is some footage from the duo’s blistering live performance at Supersonic Festival Limited Edition last year:

Support for Sleaford Mods this February comes from Rainbow Grave. From the ashes of Backwards, Rainbow Grave play Primitive sludge punk…Ugly guitars: distortion, echo, feedback…Low rent caveman hate music

Featuring:
Drums: James Commander
Bass: Nathan Warner
Guitar: John Doom
Guitar + Vocals: Nicholas Bullen (ex Napalm Death and Scorn)
Check out Rainbow Grave’s music below:

Last but not least, watch this space for an announcement about Supersonic Festival 2015, which will be coming soon.

Supersonic + Milque & Muhle Xmas Cocktail

xmascocktail_new1

By far the best description of our forth coming event by the very talented writer/artist/musician Poppy Twist  (of Tablescraps fame) for the latest Brum Notes magazine.

Paddy Steer and Glatze are for you if you’re feeling that “all bands with drums, guitar and bass are so over, man… give me theremin, xylophone and an assortment of mutilated dolls any day.” Paddy Steer’s set up looks a bit like one of those automaton bands that you see at the edge of a pier or whatever…with, like, a monkey on drums. Which is obviously good. Glatze self-describes his ‘thing’ as Romany Surf Step. I don’t know what that means but I’ll take his word for it. Glatze means ‘bald’ in German, which, to be fair, is 100 per cent accurate labelling. I like the cut of this man’s jib.
The Lowest Form and Palehorse are ear-melting, spittle-soaked hardcore bands from the capital. Both have impressively evaded the usual music industry hype-train, so this is your best chance to see two incredible bands that you may not have heard of before. Listen to Lowest Form’s ‘Negative Ecstasy’ EP online (it’s out on Iron Lung records), to prepare yourself.

Ravioli Me Away are kitsch as f*ck and they give me a Slits Tradition-era Slits vibe. Imagination is their best song on Soundcloud at the moment. It samples a David Cameron speech and has the funkiest bass I have enjoyed this side of the 80s. Rainbow Grave is the new project of Nathan from Milque & Muhle and Nick from Napalm Death, which is precisely as good as it sounds.

Hordes are the blackest black metal and (along with Table Scraps) are representing Birmingham on the lineup. Sly & the Family Drone were a big hit at Supersonic last year with their unique brand of uncut industrial noise. I expect lots of headbanging. And then there’s us. We’re a noise-punk band and we’re ace. In other words, expect ringing ears long after the last Xmas dinner sandwich is polished off on Boxing Day.

Get to know Ben Frost

benfrost_web01

After completing his tour of the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Italy, Frost will be joined by Greg Fox (ex Liturgy) for a special performance at Birmingham’s Eastside Projects on 12 November and will include a  live AV set from Mothwasp.

Featured track Venter (AURORA, 2014) judders into life as a tightly woven, hypnotic industrial rhythm against the omnipresent hum of atmospheric guitar throb. Soon, these elements coalesce to form a huge, expansive ‘mechanical system’.

Aside from Frost’s two most recent solo albums – 2011’s Sólaris and this year’s AURORA, the interstitial performer has collaborated, amongst others, with Wayne McGregor and companies in the sphere of contemporary dance; with the directors of Australian drama films Sleeping Beauty and In Her Skin, and – most notably – with Brian Eno as part of the Rolex and Protégé Arts Initiative.

‘Ben Frost’s interests are vast, and that includes the way he approaches his music. For all this, his music is equally fascinating when you strip away the context and simply let the sounds he’s making overtake you.’ – Pitchfork

Tickets for the performance can be purchased either from theticketsellers or from Milque & Muhle
